This picture is more for us than anyone.... to remind us of what we left! And why! Ha ha!
This is on our road, just out of our driveway.
More scenery along our road!
Steven drove us down off the mountain. It was slick! And there are steep hills and curves on those sleep hills!
Even the paved county road was bad!
We hit heavy snow between Missoula and Butte, and holed up at a motel in Deer Lodge after we got tired of creeping along at 40 mph.
Wednesday morning we headed south at Butte to try and get out of the snow. As the snow thinned out the road was ICY! By Dillon, Montana we were out of most of it.
Scott had played half the night in the motel room, so he napped as we drove.
Fortunately Steven didn't nap too, because he was driving!
Since I took a picture of everyone else, I took a "selfie" of myself!
Welcome to Idaho, on I-15. Foggy, icy, and cold. yeah...I felt real welcome!
After we got onto dry roads the wind picked up. At 70 mph into a 30 mph headwind, the roof rack couldn't hold up. It snapped loose from the car and tossed our kayak onto our trailer, then bounced it onto the road into the middle of three cars, which swerved to avoid it. It bounced onto the grass along the roadside, the kayak still strapped to the kayak racks which were still bolted to the roof racks. Fortunately the kayak was okay and didn't hit any cars.
We loaded things enough to get to the exit a quarter mile ahead. Here's the roof rack crossbars with the kayak racks strapped to them.
Steven took the kayak racks off and we put them in the car, and threw away the roof rack pieces.
Then he strapped the kayak down good on the trailer... on top of the Christmas trees.
Welcome to Utah. A little more welcome-looking!
Susnset over the great Salt Lake, near it's north end.
We drove through to Mesquite and spent the night in the Wal-Mart parking lot, sleeping in the car.
Steven took Odie for a walk in the morning, you can see him in the middle of the picture.
A far cry from yesterday morning when the car and trailer were buried in snow!
Those are palm trees in the back ground.
